This studio-based art course integrates classic literature with advanced, process-driven artmaking. Students read selected works of enduring literature and respond through drawing, mixed media, sculpture, and bookbinding, emphasizing symbolism, interpretation, and personal vision rather than imitation. The course functions like a small working studio, with technical instruction woven into hands-on projects and a hand-bound art journal serving as a private record of sketches, quotes, and reflection throughout the semester. Artistic skill is developed, but the primary focus is on effort, craftsmanship, and thoughtful engagement with both text and material.

This gentle Pre-K class introduces early learners to letter recognition, phonemic awareness, and story engagement through a consistent, nurturing classroom rhythm. Students explore the alphabet incrementally, with weekly review and introduction of new letters supported by phonics cards, guided discussion, and take-home printables. A single classic storybook is read repeatedly throughout the term, allowing children to build familiarity, comprehension, and expressive language through observation and conversation. Learning is reinforced through movement, song, fine-motor activities, and simple hands-on projects designed to support attention, confidence, and joy in learning. The course emphasizes routine, care for materials, and a loving environment where curiosity and early literacy skills can grow naturally.
